Sportsmanship

So I don't think anyone in the vicinity of a television with ESPN or a computer with the same has not seen what University of New Mexico women's soccer was hit with last week. For those of you not in the know, just look at this. As a mother with a young daughter in soccer, I'm horrified by this girl's actions and even more so by the lack of action of the coach, refs and her teammates. How do you let that happen?!? I'm quite sure that if I were playing with this girl I may have taken her out myself if I saw anything like this happen. We wonder where the blame lies, and while I think more should have been done to prevent this from going on through the whole game, it should be worth mentioning that I hear parents at my daughter's soccer game telling their kids to use their elbows and "get the ball anyway you can!" They're 6 and 7. How ridiculous is that? Something tells me this girl's parents were leading the way to this behavior and maybe that's why she got a place on the team, because of this aggressiveness. Hopefully, the University of New Mexico coach and athletic director have scores of hatemail signaling that this behavior is far from okay. I know it's a game and it can get rough, but this borders on criminal in behavior. Not saying that BYU didn't have their own cheapshots but the reaction seemed to far outweigh the initial offense. Unfortunately, I think the entire UNM team was in on some stuff that we just didn't see, ie. the girl who kicked the ball into the BYU player's face while she was lying on the ground. I'm just sayin'. Your parents must be so proud.
