Waterlogged

Greetings from the state currently known as Inundated By Tropical Storm Fay. :) It's been raining for like 3 days and the storm isn't even over here anymore. Gotta feel for those folks up in Daytona and the surrounding area as Fay has decided to camp out there, see the sights, sit on the beach.

Some places are getting over 30 inches of rain. 30 inches! When you start talking about rain in the amounts of feet, there's problems.

I think the powers that be decided that they were tired of meterologists making "predictions" on what this storm would do and gave them a big ol' f-you! If you don't live in Florida and haven't been paying attention, Fay already made two landfalls in Florida (though I don't think they should count Key West since it's about a fly speck on the map anyway) then whipped across the state, gaining strength (which never happens when a storm crosses over land) and decided to camp out on the Space Coast (aka Daytona/Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral area). This thing was supposed to be through the state already and on it's way to Georgia or some such place. My luck, it will do something funky, end up back in the Gulf of Mexico, and hit us again. Yeah, I'm so lucky I should play the Lotto.

I'm so ready for this hurricane season to be over.

Prepping for pigskin

Football season is almost upon us. Unfortunately, this has been the summer of Favre and all that entails. I always liked Brett Favre until this latest incident. I, personally, think he's being a bit of a diva. Every year it's the same thing. Is he going to retire/is he going to play? I don't blame Green Bay for not wanting to sit on the fence waiting for him to make his decision; they've been doing that for the last few years and every year when he decides he's going to play one more year they take him with open arms and everyone's happy. This year, Brett was the one who announced that he was retiring. He even did the paperwork. So when he decides to unretire, after a remarkable four months (or less) of retirement, he's surprised when Green Bay isn't so welcoming. I can't imagine why. Look dude, you were the one who cried at the press conference about quitting the sport. Not that I blame you considering all the blood, sweat and tears that went into your football career, but you can't expect your old team to keep a candle burning for you on the in case that you change your mind again.

Maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm being a bit heartless, but I feel for Aaron Rodgers. The kid finally gets his shot and then Brett upstages him again. What's up with that? Give it up Brett. You don't want your legacy tarnished with this whole mess.

And let's move on peeps. I tried watching the NFL Network last night but I'd say 90% of all the stories and coverage were about Brett Favre. Glad to know there aren't any other teams or players in the NFL right now. Of an hour-long show, maybe ten minutes were not devoted to Favre-Watch! At this point, I'd be happy to hear more about Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson.

Watch the movie or read the book?

I love movies. Let me preface that now. I love movies. Crappy movies, horror movies, comedies, they're all great. I do have issue with movies/TV shows that are based on/adapted from books. And don't get me started on the "Oscar-winning films."

If you saw The Scarlet Letter, you know exactly what I'm talking about. I had to read that book in junior high (what an initiation into adultery and clandestine affairs with clergy members) and I don't recall half of what happened in the movie happening in the book. Might have made the book a little easier to read, if I must be honest. Now to be fair, it does say in the beginning credits, "Loosely adapted from." (At least that's what I recall, only saw the movie once and that's saying something from the person that saw Top Gun so many times, I could basically recite the entire movie from beginning to end.) Don't even get me started on the Stephen King books being turned into movies. Love the books, hate the movies.

This is my dilemna, I'll see a movie and find out there's a book and I'll want to read it. Why? I don't know, I just saw the movie which probably contains all the good parts of the book; one would think I would save my money right? Well, I'm a book junkie too. Not literary greats, usually horror or trashy romance novels. I know, I'm cultured. But I've heard nothing but hype about the new Twilight books and the movie coming out. So of course, I just rushed to my nearest book retailer and bought not one but two of the books from the series. Yeah, I'm not bothering to check to see if the first one sucks, I committed myself to two of them. I'm so fiscally responsible right?

On top of that, I'm in the middle of Generation Kill. The book and the mini-series. Yeah, I watch the show and then try reading the book. I'm almost caught up in the book to the point where the series is. Makes sense, I know. Well, I have to say it's because I love the series. The storyline is pretty compelling and, as a former military member, I can relate to some of the situations that the guys encounter (not the combat ones, of course, but others such as crazy, incompetent leaders, military decisions that seem to make no sense, and the love of the ol' MRE to name a few). Plus, most of the guys are pretty hot. Just a bonus.

So I guess this brings me to my point: do you read the book or watch the movie? If you do both, which comes first? Don't think it's quite up there with the chicken or the egg quandry but I think it comes close.
