I just got done watching the much anticipated "Jon & Kate Plus 8" premiere. Having seen all the press (how could you not with Kate being on the cover of People) I was trying to go in with an open mind. I used to love this show. The kids were so cute, watching the mom and dad try to balance everything, it was inspiring. After a while though, it stopped being about their lives and how they did day to day activities and became more about all the trips (Utah, Oprah, San Diego, Florida, Hawaii), plastic surgery, hair plugs, and their "showings". This became more and more disheartening. Also, whatever happened to all their "friends and family" that were shown on previous seasons. They've all been phased out. Funny how that happens. It's starting to give credence to the brother's story that she wanted them off because TLC was wanting to compensate the other people. (Her own brother was outing her, that should say something.)
I know that the show is edited in certain ways but it certainly became more about Kate and how she presented herself and her family. It's pretty obvious that Jon doesn't want to do the show anymore. Kate seems more and more fake. This could be the editing but it seems that it's all an act. Like when Joel came up and said thank you for the party. He said it and she ignored him. Then he said it again and one of the moms said, "Ahhh" and then she put on the act of the loving mom complete with the fakey, "the kids said, 'Thank you Mommy' which just melted my heart." Whatever.
I'm certainly not saying I hope they get divorced but I would think that if they really wanted to work it out, they would have said that the marriage and family were much higher on the priority scale than the show. TLC should take the show off! Let these people work on their lives privately and if it works out, great. If not, okay to that too. These kids are going to be affected more than anyone else. Leave them alone!!!! For the kids sake, cancel the show! I'm sure they have more than enough money to take care of the kids for life, just look at the million dollar home they're living in now.

Summertime
I'm surprised I still have a Blogger account as it has been so long since last I posted. I know, the tragedy of it all. Still it is almost summertime (the season of movies, not season of temperature as if you use temp as a requirement it is summertime 9 months out of the year down here) the movie studios are on overdrive to get you to spend your hard-earned dollars seeing their many big-budget features. Noticably absent is a big Will Smith movie. Totally breaking the streak Will. As I am a big-time movie buff/sucker, I have already partaken of a few big name movies and so far, not too bad.
Saw the X-Men Origins: Wolverine. If nothing else, go to see Hugh Jackman in all his shirtless gloriousness. Ryan Reynolds isn't too bad either though no shirtlessness to speak of. I'm no comic book fan so I don't know the history of these characters and if it jives with what the Marvel world says is supposed to happen so I was quite happy to watch in my comic book ignorance. Good times.
Also saw Star Trek - the reloaded version. Less cheese, more action. Plus who doesn't love Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) and John Cho (Harold and Kumar...) as Scotty and Sulu. Love them. Good effects, comic relief and really glad they didn't go overboard with the ol' cliche Star Trek lines. There were a few but well-placed.
What's coming up? Terminator: Salvation, aka the movie Christian Bale went apesh*t on some poor director's assistant on. Really Christian? You're an actor, not curing cancer or negotiating world peace. Get over yourself. Hope the movie is halfway decent otherwise he looks more like a douche than initally believed. Night at the Museum 2 will probably be seen by me and the kids. Looks okay, love Hank Azaria (he's Moe from Simpsons folks!) and Steve Coogan so hope it doesn't suck. Up looks like a cute movie and so fax Pixar hasn't disappointed with their movies.
Anything else going on this summer? Well, kids are off of school soon (oh how I miss summer vacations) and hurricane season is just around the corner (joy of joys) so that should be fun. Not really.
Updates should be forthcoming on movies, news or whatever fits my fancy for the day.
