Random Thoughts Update

So I've been reading all this flack that David Letterman caught because he made some joke about Sarah Palin's daughter. I personally don't see what the big deal is and I don't think he should have had to apologize for it. I don't think it was especially offensive or degrading to young women. I am of the mind the she, Mrs. Palin, is trying to cling to her fifteen minutes of fame as long as possible. I say, give it up lady! No one cares what you think or what you have to say. If I were a tax-paying resident of Alaska, I would be wondering if I were paying for said daughter of the governor's trip to New York to include the Yankees game. Why is she there? What possible official capacity would require her to bring her daughter? I'm sure there will be some excuse, but honestly, if she's there in official gubernatorial capacity, her daughter should be at home with the other kids. I'm just sayin'.

Football season is just around the bend. Say it with me, "YEAH!!!" I think I need to find a sport to observe between football postseason and preseason. That's a good six months of no football which is really just unacceptable. I watched the Red Wings in the Stanley Cup Finals, but oy. More on that debacle later. I'm hoping for a resurgence of the '06 Saints. While I will miss Deuce McAllister, I have high hopes for Lance Moore and Pierre Thomas. Those kids are good and I hope Payton uses them well.

On the flip side of that coin are my poor beleaguered Lions. While they can't do worse than last season (unless the NFL decides to add more games to the schedule) I'm not sure if I'm so optimistic on their chances of pulling out a winning season. I would like to have the optimism of some of the Lions, but I'm a little more realistic. Winning one game at this point would be good.

The Detroit Red Wings. The one team that seems to be pretty much consistently good all the time. I mean, the have "Hockeytown" in the ice at Joe Louis Arena; that right there should say something. I don't know that much about hockey, but I tried to watch it. I still don't know what the difference is between icing and offsides, etc. but man what a disappointment. Ugh.

Summer movie season is upon us. I have seen, since the beginning of summer, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Star Trek, Up, Night at the Museum: Battle for the Smithsonian, and Dance Flick (I didn't choose the last one, let me say that right now). So far, with the exception of Dance Flick, the movies have been quite good. I was hoping to see Terminator Salvation, but might have to wait for DVD on that. I have been told that I need to see The Hangover. As my co-worker described it, I was laughing so hard I couldn't breathe. Definitely a good review if I've ever heard one. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs looks good even if my youngest seems suddenly afraid of dinosaurs, and Year One would be worth watching just to see Michael Cera. (Superbad rules!!!) I'm sure there are other movies worth seeing this summer, but I can't think of them now.

I have a new TV crush. Jensen Ackles of Supernatural is hawt! Supercute and has that nice Texas drawl thing going on. Saw an episode where he took off his shirt. Mm, mm, mm, mm mm. The show isn't too bad either. Thought I'd mention that since I don't think I've ever watched anything on that CW channel before now. I think I'm a bit out of the demographic they're pandering to. Although I have to say that it seems that my childhood/teenage years are coming back around. C'mon 90210 and Melrose Place, shaggy haircuts and skinny jeans, Tranformers, GI Joe, etc. Soon they'll be bringing back parachute pants and mullett cuts. Ugh and shudder.

So we are now in hurricane season. I hate to jinx it by saying anything at all about it, but with my luck we'll get a cat 5 storm coming through here soon. I'm just that lucky, and I wonder why I haven't won the Powerball yet. Go figure. We should probably be prepping now by cleaning out our garage and the yard to get any loose stuff up and out of there, but we're not. I'm the biggest procrastinator and I am sure this year will be no different than the last seven. I'll be in line with the other procrastinators hours before the storm's about to hit trying to stock up on bottled water and Chef Boyardee. Good times, good times.

Had to get new tires on the ol' beast. Talk about a beating there. $800 for four tires and an alignment. Yikes. Though they did give me some nice valve caps that I am sure will be stolen soon. Why you ask? Because the last ones that came on the SUV (nice metal caps too) were taken and replace with the cheap plastic ones. Why anyone would feel the need to steal valve stem caps I have no idea. Obviously, someone has time on their hands.

Well, I think that's enough babbling for one day. Stay tuned for more random thoughts. :)
